Summer Outlook: July Fishing In The Lowcountry

Long days, great weather, and fantastic fishing, this is what summer in Charleston is all about! We’ve got some unique fishing opportunities in July for anglers of all experience levels and groups of all sizes.

Night Time Flounder Gigging

Long story short, this is an experience you’ll never forget. When the tides line up, we launch the Gatortrax, turn on the lights, and cruise through the creeks, shining for flounder and sheepshead at low tide—Campebell even saw a tripletail the other night.

The trick with Charleston Flounder Gigging is that we have to run these at night and at low tide, typically from 9 PM – 11 PM. There are only about 10 or so days a month that line up in this window. Sometimes we can pivot and do a 3 AM – 6 AM trip, which is a hell of a way to kickstart your day.

Ever snatched a frog?

For another epic evening adventure, the frogs are out in full force on the rivers! We’ve gotten out a couple times this year and it’s been really good. All the rivers are high and the frogs are plentiful. If you’ve never had frog legs, book a frog snatching trip, get on the bow of the boat, and get ready for an awesome cookout.

Inshore Fishing Outlook: Bull Reds & Sharks

The bull red fishing in the Charleston harbor is the best it’s been in years! Andrew, Austin, and Foster have been out on the center consoles catching a lot of them. These are one of our most popular trips, full of big eats, screaming drags, and bent rods.

With the bull reds come the sharks, and Charleston’s shark fishing has been great as well. At only 2-3 hours long, these trips are great for folks visiting town looking to get the group out on the water for some epic fights with bonnetheads, hammerheads, fine-toothed sharks, sandbar sharks, and bull sharks.

Kids Camp Is Going Strong

If you’re still looking for something for the kiddos to do this summer, check out our Charleston Youth Fishing Summer Camp. We’ve still got some spots open in July for two days of guided fishing where your camper will learn fundamentals of fishing, rigging, and leave with their own spin rod combos. Capt. Johnston and Capt. Andrew are both dads who love raising their little ones on the water—and sharing these experiences with the next generation of anglers in our community.

From the Flats to the Gulf Stream

This is the time of year for flood tide fly fishing for redfish. Capt. Campbell is in town through Mid August so this is the time to get out on the bow with him and see some true Lowcountry gems.

For those looking to fish the gulf stream, we still have some availability for the Viking. We went out yesterday and hooked into some wahoo, mahi, and tuna. While the season for them is tapering off, the billfishing is only going to get better!
