Charleston Frog Snatching Trips
Join us for a truly authentic Lowcountry experience snatching frogs with our team. These trips are an action-packed, hands-on experience with short run times and lots of snatching. It’ll take you a little while to get warmed up to it but once it’s on, it’s on. We’re running spot to spot, looking for holes in the grass, and snatching up frogs left and right. These trips are great for folks of all experience levels.
When we get back to the ramp we’re cleaning your catch for you. Frogs are great eating!
Want to stay longer? If the frogs are abundant and the weather is good, we can extend the experience and add additional time on the water while we’re out.
Target Species
We’re targeting the American Bullfrog, the largest frog species in North America. They’re big, they’re slimy, they’re fast, and they’re delicious. They hang out in the thick hydrilla and bubble grass, finding safety in the cover.
Using our mud motor, we’re cutting paths through the bubble grass on our way upriver and downriver. This opens up spots that attract frogs and are easier to navigate on the second go-round. You’ll be wearing a high-power headlamp to spot the eyes.
Leaning over the deck of the boat, we’ll be cruising through the paths we’ve created while you spot and snatch frogs. Grab em quick, hold em tight, and throw em in the bag. You’ve got to be quick! Sometimes you won’t see them until you’re right on top of them.
We prefer snatching over gigging because it’s fun, it’s (literally) hands-on, and it’s the cleanest way to harvest them.
There is no limit on frogs, so we’ll grab as many as we can!
Where We Go
We’re meeting at the Cypress Gardens Boat Ramp on the Cooper River, 30 minutes after sunset—heading out right when it gets dark.
We don’t have to go far to get on the frogs, running 10-15 minutes upriver and downriver from the boat launch. We might cover a mile of river in total but there are so many frogs within that mile it’ll be all we need.
There are always frogs but typically full moons and trips after a good rain yeild the highest quantities of bullfrogs.
